Beginning as a test piece for weaving weaves, this woven textile was crates to test out the process of weaving while listening to Black literature and weaving through unsettling feelings. Evolving into a textile that hold Black hair tools from Lusaka, Zambia.
“Woven Weaves” is apart of a body of work titled “Growth: A Hair Journey” a multidisciplinary exhibition revolving around themes of my personal lived experiences with Black Hair and the historical narratives from community resistance and resilience. The eleven pieces within my body of work explore the different dynamics within the emotional relationship that Black Bodies carry within their hair. It focuses on the lived experience of an Immigrant femme Black body, over several years, navigating the effects of societal nuances.
