Kawama Kasutu

Zambian born Artist Kawama Kasutu, is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist from Punamu’kwati’jk, NS (Dartmouth) The Inspiration in her work often blooms from within her communities, her passions for craftivism, community building and self expression. Some of her most recent work has focused on using Art to take up space, as a form of resistance. Kawama’s Artist voice is bright and often full of patterns and figures inspired by her Cultural heritage. Kawama’s work often highlights concepts of ‘art-making practices that engage or celebrate the Black body’, the ‘critical discourse on accessibility, inclusion, and social equity’, and the ‘artistic explorations at the intersection of the body and identity’. Some of her most recent work, a digital Mural printed on metal, currently displayed on Agricola St above the Brasserie since March 2nd 2023, in Halifax NS. Focuses on using Art to take up space, as a form of resistance, while also celebrating Black joy. This project was in partnership with Steps Public Art Toronto. A seasoned facilitator who is passionate about art-based community programming and expressive arts techniques to promote self-expression and emotional healing.
